# Teams, camps & tryouts

> RinkNotes runs more than a season — a team, a skills camp, or a tryout, all on the same capture-and-review core.

RinkNotes began with the hockey season, but a season isn't the only shape it runs. The
capture-and-review core is the same everywhere — you speak notes, a coach confirms them,
they become feedback, stats, and things to work on. What changes is the container around it.

## How they differ

|                 | Team             | Skills camp                                  | Tryout                                                |
| --------------- | ---------------- | -------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **Runs over**   | A season         | A handful of numbered sessions               | A handful of numbered sessions                        |
| **Who's on it** | Your roster | Camp players | **Trialists**, evaluated for selection |
| **Reports** | Ongoing feedback | A snapshot per session + a cumulative report | Staff-only comparison; parents get nothing by default |
| **Ends with** | The season | The cumulative camp report | Promoting trialists onto a team |

## Who creates them

Your **first team** comes from the [setup wizard](/coaches/getting-started) the first time you
sign in. **Additional teams, camps, and tryouts** are created by a **club admin** from the
**team switcher** (the team tile at the top of the sidebar or capturer) — look for **New skills
camp** and **New tryout** at the bottom of the menu. If you don't see those, you're not an org
admin on this club; ask whoever set the club up.

<Note>
  A camp or tryout is its own space with its own roster and staff — it doesn't mix with your
  season team. Switch between all of them from the same team switcher.
</Note>

## Two more things RinkNotes handles

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Goalies" icon="shield-halved" href="/coaches/goalies">
    A distinct position with its own drills, reports, and game vocabulary — on a team, a camp,
    or a tryout.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Adult teams" icon="user-check" href="/coaches/adult-teams">
    Junior, college, or senior teams where the **player** consents for themselves — no parent
    in the loop.
