When RinkNotes writes up a player-feedback note, it also tags it with one observation category — the developmental area the note is about. This gives every piece of feedback a consistent, at-a-glance meaning, and lets the dashboard show where your week’s attention went.
Categories apply to player feedback only. Game stats, action items, and game insights aren’t tagged this way.

The nine categories

Each category has a color used consistently everywhere it appears — the feed, the dashboard breakdown, and a player’s page.
CategoryWhat it’s about
CompeteBattle level, effort, winning pucks, second efforts.
SkatingStride, speed, edges, mobility.
ComposurePoise with the puck, decisions under pressure.
SkillPuck handling, passing, shooting, finishing.
CoachableTaking feedback, adjusting, work ethic.
Compete EdgeThe extra edge — physicality, net-front, hard areas.
Hockey IQReads, positioning, support, game sense.
DefensiveDefensive-zone play, backchecking, gaps.
SystemsTeam structure — breakouts, forecheck, special teams.
You can see the full list any time under Settings on the web workspace.

Changing a category

RinkNotes assigns the category automatically, but you have the final say. While a note is still in the Feed, open it and pick a different category if the note fits better somewhere else. The change sticks once you confirm the note.
Don’t overthink it — the automatic tag is usually right, and the category is just there to help you see patterns. Reassign only when it’s clearly off.
